Skyline Roofing Partners buys Classic Roofing and John Hogan Roofing in Clearwater

Two Clearwater roofing companies changed hands on the same day in March 2025, to the same buyer, and both kept their signs.

Skyline Roofing Partners, an Atlanta-based platform backed by Imperial Capital, announced on March 10, 2025 that it had acquired Classic Roofing & Construction, founded in Clearwater in 2003, and John Hogan Roofing, established in Clearwater in 1996. Terms were not disclosed and both brands were retained (Source: Roofing Contractor, 2025).

Owner-operator Jake Babbitt kept a minority stake, stayed on to run the businesses and joined Skyline’s Founder’s Council. Babbitt called Skyline “an outstanding partner throughout this process.” CEO Mike Midgett said the deals deepened the platform’s Gulf Coast residential presence.

The two Clearwater companies were Skyline’s second and third acquisitions, following Jacksonville-based Elo Roofing. The platform was formed in 2024.

Roofing is now on the same map as HVAC

Roofing arrived late to Tampa Bay consolidation and is catching up quickly. The documented record in this database now includes several platforms operating in the region:

Why Florida roofing draws capital

The structural reasons are not hidden. Florida’s roof replacement cycle is compressed by storm damage and by insurance carriers’ age-of-roof requirements, which produces steady, weather-driven replacement demand rather than the discretionary remodel demand that drives roofing in other states. That demand profile — recurring, non-optional, insurance-adjacent — is what platform investors describe when they use the phrase “resilient end market.”

What it means for homeowners

A roof replacement is one of the largest single transactions most Florida homeowners make, and it is usually made under time pressure after a leak or an insurance notice. That is the condition the model is best suited to.

• Two bids can share one owner. In Clearwater, two long-established roofing names have belonged to the same platform since March 2025. Getting quotes from both is not the independent comparison it looks like.
• Founder retention is common and time-limited by design. Minority rollover and a Founder’s Council seat are standard structures. They align the seller for a period; they are not a permanent commitment about who runs the company.
• Pressure works differently on urgent trades. When a homeowner is deciding under a deadline — an insurance requirement, an active leak — the value of a slow, independent second opinion goes up, not down.
