About

Tampa Home Watchdog exists because the name on the truck stopped telling you who you were hiring.

Since 2010, most of the HVAC, plumbing and electrical brands Tampa Bay homeowners grew up with have been sold — many to investment platforms that keep the old name, the old trucks and the old phone number while changing everything behind them. Roofing, pest control, pool service and garage doors are following the same path. There was no public place to look this up. Now there is.

What we do

We maintain a sourced database of every ownership change we can document in seven counties and eight trades, profile the buyers and the investors behind them, explain in plain language what tends to change after a sale, and keep a verified list of companies that are still owned by the people who run them. Every record shows its sources and a confidence level. See the methodology.

Independence

We are not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any contractor, platform, franchisor, trade association or investor. We take no advertising and no payment for listings, placements or removals. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on this page first.

Editorial policy

We criticize business models, not people. Every statement about a named company is either a documented ownership fact with a link, or a quotation from a public document. Our essays argue that specific incentive structures tend to produce specific outcomes for customers and workers; where our evidence is an analogue from another industry, we say so. We publish corrections openly.

Comment and submission policy

Comments and tips are held for review and screened before publication for personal information, unsupported accusations about named individuals, and spam. We aggregate employee tips and never publish identifying details. We remove content on request from the person who posted it. Company representatives may respond on the record; responses are noted on the relevant page.

Who runs it

Tampa Home Watchdog is an independent research project run by Tampa Bay residents with backgrounds in the trades, finance and data work. Research is assisted by AI tools and verified by people against primary documents. We do not accept anonymous funding.
